Mom on the Go: How I Balance Travel, Parenting, and Business

Published on 20 March 2025 at 14:29

As a travel agent, wife, and mom to a busy little boy, I’ve learned how to juggle it all—whether it’s planning unforgettable vacations for my clients, taking care of family life, or growing my business. Balancing the demands of travel, parenting, and business can be challenging, but I’ve found ways to make it work. Here's a peek into how I manage it all while keeping my sanity intact (most of the time!).

1. Embrace Flexibility in Your Schedule

One of the perks of being a travel agent is that I can work from anywhere. Whether I'm booking trips from a café, hotel room, or on a plane, the flexibility of my job is essential. Of course, it requires a little planning. I set aside time each week to organize my work schedule, prioritize my tasks, and make sure I’m hitting all my deadlines—even if that means answering client emails during a car ride or between family activities.

That flexibility also extends to family time. I can adjust my schedule to attend my son’s milestones. Being able to drop everything and be there for those moments is priceless.

2. Travel with Purpose and Plan Ahead

Traveling often for work can sound glamorous, but it’s not always about the vacation vibes. Sometimes I’m away for business, meeting clients, or visiting suppliers. When this happens, I make the most of the trip by turning it into a learning experience. I check out the best destinations and activities to recommend, seek out new suppliers, and scout locations for future family vacations. It’s all part of working smarter, not harder!

When it comes to family vacations, I plan ahead to make sure everything is covered. From finding family-friendly hotels to creating itineraries that balance adventure and downtime, planning is key.

3. Delegate Tasks & Use Technology

Running a business while raising a family means I can’t do it all by myself. I use automation tools to manage bookings, emails, and client communication. Apps like Google Calendar, and scheduling tools keep everything organized, so I don’t have to waste time remembering every little detail.

At home, I also rely on my husband’s support. He’s my partner in both parenting and life. Whether it’s handling dinner while I’m on a call, taking the lead on a weekend trip, or distracting our son so mom can take care of business. Having each other's backs makes everything much more manageable.

4. Take Care of Yourself First

It may sound cliché, but I’ve learned that I can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking care of myself—whether it’s a quick workout, some quiet time with a book, or just a moment of stillness—helps me recharge. As a mom, wife, and business owner, self-care is essential to avoid burnout. I’ve also learned to embrace the idea that it’s okay to say no when my plate is too full.

5. Be Present in the Moment

One of the hardest things about balancing travel, parenting, and business is staying present. When I’m working, I focus on providing the best service to my clients. When I’m with my son, I turn off the emails and give him my undivided attention. And when my husband and I have our downtime together, I make it a point to put work aside and just enjoy the moment.

It’s a constant work in progress, but being present has made all the difference in maintaining a healthy balance. I’m not perfect, and some days are more challenging than others, but I’ve learned that progress is ALWAYS better than perfection.

6. Celebrate the Little Wins

Finally, I celebrate the little wins. Whether it’s booking a dream trip for a client, managing a smooth family vacation, or simply surviving a busy week with my family intact, I take pride in the small victories. These moments of success—no matter how small—remind me why I do what I do.

Final Thoughts

Balancing travel, parenting, and business is no easy feat, but with the right mindset, support, and a bit of planning, it’s possible. For any other busy moms or dads out there trying to manage it all—remember, you’re not alone. Take it one day at a time, delegate when you need to, and always make time for what matters most.
